World Rowing launches dedicated page for university rowers
World Rowing considers the university rowing community to be an important and unique group in the world of rowing and one which has produced a great many World Champions and Olympic medallists. A university rower has to combine the rigours of academia with the physical and time-consuming demands of rowing. World Rowing has chosen to dedicate a portion of its website to this unique community of rowers.
The web page serves to bring university rowers a range of information including:
- Athlete profiles
- Club profiles
- News stories
- Results
- Events
- Find a university
It also offers the ability to submit information on university clubs and events not already included.
The University Rowing Facebook page seeks to provide a platform for university rowers around the world to connect, share events, photos, news and information in an informal way. Currently featuring on the page is the inaugural Parmigiani Spirit Award. Applications have now closed for this Award, which will see the winner receive a Swiss-made, hand-crafted Parmigiani Fleurier Watch and the winner’s club will be presented with a brand new racing eight from Filippi, a world-leading manufacturer of rowing racing shells.
This award is for a university rower who has demonstrated the core values of rowing and the World Rowing university page will soon announce the finalists. The panel of judges, which will decide the ultimate winner, includes Olympic single sculls champion Mahe Drysdale (NZL), who studied at the University of Auckland.
