2013 World Rowing award finalists decided

Following a public nomination process the list of nominees was narrowed down to a shortlist by the World Rowing Federation, FISA Council. The shortlist highlights the best of the year in rowing and shows off a cross-section of the 2013 world of rowing including the best men's and women's crews, Para-rowing crews, coaches and a special award for service to rowing.

2013 World Rowing Coach of the Year

• Simon Cox (SUI)
  Head coach in Switzerland since 2008, Cox helped build the lightweight men's four crew that made the London 2012 Olympic final. He then split the boat into a lightweight double and pair for 2013, with both boats medalling at the 2013 World Rowing Championships.
  
  

  

• Noel Donaldson (NZL)
  Best known for his success with the Australian men's four at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, Donaldson now coaches in New Zealand where he head's the men's sweep programme. This includes the Olympic and World Champion men's pair of Eric Murray and Hamish Bond.
• Mark Emke (NED)
  Longstanding national coach for the Netherlands, Emke helped lead this year's men's four to a World Championship title. He has also been successful with the men's eight.
• Lars-Johan Flodin (NOR) 
  Beginning in Sweden with his most successful charge being single sculler Frida Svennson, Flodin now heads Norwegian rowing and this year the men's double and lightweight men's double both took World Championship titles.
• Ralf Holtmeyer (GER)
  Holtmeyer is synonymous with the German men's eight, first seeing success at the 1988 Olympic Games. Between 2000 and 2008 Holtmeyer worked with the German women's sweep squad. Back with the men's eight in 2009 the crew went unbeaten until 2013 when they took silver.
• Gianni Postiglione (GRE)
  Originally from Italy, Postiglione has coached in a number of countries. He most recently established Greece as a winning nation in rowing and in 2013 was a consultant for Lithuanian Rowing who had medal success with their men's and women's double sculls.
  Josi Verdonkschot (NED, ITA)
  Between 2009 and 2012 Verdonkschot helped build Italy's women's rowing programme which continues to grow in success. Verdonkschot is now back in the Netherlands and his lightweight women's quad are the 2013 World Rowing Champions.

2013 World Rowing Distinguished Services to Rowing

• Anita de Frantz (USA)
  De Frantz medalled at the 1976 Olympic Games and became well-known when she protested the US boycott of the 1980 Olympics. She has been FISA's vice-president for 20 years and held a number of IOC positions including vice-president.
  
  

  

• Ingrid Dieterle (GER)
  The former chair of FISA's youth commission and member of the FISA women's commission, Dieterle has been integral in the development of women's rowing around the world.
• Regula Catrina Hug (SUI)
  One of the first competitive women rowers in Switzerland, Hug has been a volunteer at Lucerne regatta's for many years. At 70 years old, Hug is still an active rower and coach.
• Denis Oswald (SUI)
  President of FISA for 24 years, Oswald will retire in 2014. He began as a rower and medalled at the 1968 Olympic Games. He has also held top positions in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and ASOIF.
• Harry Parker (USA)
  Coach of Harvard University men's crews for 51 seasons, Parker was also involved in US Olympic teams including supporting the first international women's crews. Parker, who died earlier this year, is considered the most significant US University coach of the last 50 years.
• David Tanner (GBR)
  The performance director of British rowing since 1996, Tanner has fronted the huge growth in success of British rowing.

2013 World Rowing Male Crew of the Year

• Angel Fournier Rodriguez (CUB, M1x)
  Fournier Rodriguez is currently Cuba's leading light in rowing and he is accomplishing this in the very competitive men's single sculls. Starting on the international scene in 2005, Fournier Rodriguez has worked his way up to a 2013 World Championship silver medal.
• Eric Murray, Hamish Bond (NZL, M2-)
  The men's pair has been completely dominated by Murray and Bond since they entered the boat class in 2009. Murray and Bond won again at this year's World Rowing Championships giving them the record for the most number of consecutive wins.
• Daniel Ritchie, Tom Ransley, Alex Gregory, Pete Reed, Mohamed Sbihi, Andrew Triggs Hodge, George Nash, William Satch, Phelan Hill (GBR, M8+)
  The British men's eight grew and improved through the 2013 season capping it off with a World Championship title, Great Britain's first ever in this event.
• David Sain, Martin Sinkovic, Damir Martin, Valent Sinkovic (CRO, M4x)
  Consistently in the medals since coming together in 2009, at the 2012 Olympic Games Croatia's flagship crew took silver and then turned it into World Championship gold in 2013.
• Ondrej Synek (CZE, M1x)
  Consistence and stability have paid off for Synek who has regularly medalled in the men's single sculls – 39 times at World Rowing events. He became a World Champion in 2010 and did it again in 2013.

2013 World Rowing Female Crew of the Year

• Kim Crow (AUS, W1x)
  The darling of Australian Rowing, Crow set the pace by medalling twice at the London Olympics. This year she took her first World Championship title in the women's single sculls following an unbeaten season.
• Helen Glover, Polly Swann (GBR, W2-)
  After taking gold at last year's Olympic Games, Glover paired with new partner Swann. Together they have not lost a race throughout the 2013 season.
• Laura Milani, Elisabetta Sancassani (ITA, LW2x) 
  Unbeaten since coming together late last year, Milani and Sancassani made history by taking the first World Championship title in Italian women's rowing.
  
  

  

• Amanda Polk, Kerry Simmonds, Emily Regan, Lauren Schmetterling, Grace Luczak, Meghan Musnicki, Victoria Opitz, Caroline Lind, Katelin Snyder (USA, W8+)
  The women's eight brought on board a number of new players in 2013 but it didn't stop them from winning yet again. This boat has claimed gold at every World Championships since 2006.
• Donata Vistartaite, Milda Valciukaite (LTU, W2x)
  The base of top rowers in Lithuania is small and out of that have stepped Vistartaite and Valciukaite. The duo took the 2013 season by storm in the women's double scull and topped it of by taking the World Championship title on the line at Chungju.

2013 World Rowing Para Crew of the Year

• Gavin Bellis, Kathryn Ross (AUS, TAMix2x)
  After a fifth-place finish at last year's Paralympic Games, Bellis and Ross have come through in 2013 to win gold at the World Rowing Championships.
• Natalia Bolshakova (RUS, ASW1x)
  A World Championship title in the AS women's single sculls in her first year of rowing is how Bolshakova has come into the sport of Para-rowing.
• Erik Horrie (AUS, ASM1x)
  At the 2012 Paraylmpic Games Horrie took silver. He stepped up to gold this year for his first World Championship title.
  
  

  

• Kateryna Morozova, Dmytro Aleksieiv (UKR, LTAMix2x)
  In their first season together Morozova and Aleksieiv won silver in the LTAMix2x.
• Pamela Relph, Naomi Riches, Oliver Hester, James Fox, Oliver James (GBR, LTAMix4+)
  Great Britain won the LTAMix4+ at the 2012 London Paralympic Games and with the retention of two members of that crew, Great Britain took gold again in 2013.

The winners will be announced on 8 November, 2013 at a gala dinner during the 2013 World Rowing Coaches Conference in Tallinn, Estonia.
