Strong headwinds and rough weather tested even the steadiest of technicians at the competition in Vienna and all the competitors faced a battle against the weather as much as against each other. Olympic bronze medallist Marcel Hacker attacked the terrible conditions head-on in the men’s single sculls. Strong headwinds and rough weather tested even the steadiest of technicians at the competition in Vienna and all the competitors faced a battle against the weather as much as against each other. Olympic bronze medallist Marcel Hacker attacked the terrible conditions head-on in the men’s single sculls. After a fast start he gradually extended his lead and took the race in 8.28.57. Another spectacular show for the crowd came from Great Britain’s women’s coxless pair Cath Bishop and Katherine Grainger when they made short work of the rest of the field and crossed the line 4.15 seconds ahead of Belarus.
