About Vogalonga Regatta
The Vogalonga Regatta is a one day event, in which recreational rowing boats row 30km on the lagoon of the Italian city of Venice. It was founded in 1974, when a group of friends decided to hold a regatta and take a stand against the increasing use of motorboats and 'the deterioration of the city', and to celebrate Venetian traditions. At the first official regatta, on May 8 1975, 500 boats from Venice and neighbouring cities took part. Each year the regatta has grown in size, and now over 1500 boats participate each year.
The regatta starts at St. Mark's Basin and finishes at the Punta della Dogana, opposite St. Mark's Square.
