Ready for six lane racing at World Rowing Championships
A change in the weather forecast has meant that the potential to change the racing format to time trials is not necessary and the original format will be followed.
The World Rowing Federation, FISA, Executive Director Matt Smith told the meeting of team managers from the 60 nations taking part in the World Rowing Championships that the weather report was much better today.
Weather reports show that the wind speed at the nearby Schiphol Airport will range from 5-6 metres per second for today’s racing and as the wind speed at the Bosbaan regatta course is always 20-50 per cent less than the airport, it is within the acceptable range for side-by-side racing. The wind direction is also within the acceptable zone.
“The FISA Fairness Committee has evaluated the situation and has decided that (side-by-side) racing is not a risk.”
The forecast for the second day of racing, Monday 25 August is also looking a lot more favourable than previously predicted.
Racing will commence at 13:00 CET.
