Women’s Eight – Final

Then through the second 500, the United States showed their absolute dominating superiority and pushed away from the field with every stroke. What could Canada do? Behind Canada, China had slotted into third and looked like they had a chance to challenge the Canadians. China came to this final by recording the fastest time in the repechage and the other crews must have known China could deliver something special.

With 250m to the finish the United States led the field home with Canada desperately trying to hold off China. Canada rated 39 while China had shortened up their stroke and was rating 45. Canada got there first. The United States continued their winning record of every World Championships and Olympic Games since 2006.

B-final

It was heartbreak for the Netherlands when they missed out on racing in the A-final after finishing just 0.07 seconds outside of qualifying through the repechage. Today at the start it was the Germans who had the edge. Germany took bronze at the European Championships earlier this season and they used a 36 stroke rate to get ahead through the middle of the race. The Dutch followed in second. The order did not change with Gemany managing to pull further ahead.
