Moritz Moos
Rising Star – September 2014
At age 20, Germany’s Moritz Moos is already a two-time under-23 World Champion in the lightweight men’s double sculls. Since beginning to row internationally two years ago, Moos has also made his mark at the senior level, having won silver in the lightweight men’s quadruple sculls at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju, Korea. This year, he went on to win World Cup silver in Aiguebelette with partner Jason Osborne in the lightweight men’s double sculls and then finished fifth overall in this combination at the senior World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
For these reasons, World Rowing has identified Moos as a young athlete on the rise and will watch out for him in the lead up to Rio.
I row because… it is still fun and I cannot imagine my life without it.
My toughest race was… a national qualification race in Germany. Challenging all the older athletes is always really hard.
My favourite training session is… just rowing and doing some sprints.
My least favourite training session is…sitting on the erg for hours 😉
2km or 5km on the erg?I would prefer the 2km because I hate both, but 2km does not last as long.
On the erg, I listen to… loud techno or electro.
I am studying… to become a police officer.
I get annoyed when… someone disturbs me while I am sleeping.
My non-rowing friends think that rowing is… paddling. I think no one except rowers know what rowing exactly is.
My goal in rowing is…to get into an Olympic final. Maybe in Rio or, if that doesn’t work, I will try again four years later.
I’m most relaxed when… I can lie in my bed and know that I have no open point on my daily “to do list”.
My favourite food is… spaghetti carbonara.
I’m motivated by… reaching my aims in sport and in my non-rowing life.
Outside of rowing I… do everything to support my rowing career. I am studying and look for time do my training.
I’m afraid of… getting badly injured, so that I cannot train or go to school.
My 2014 highlights were… finishing fifth at the World Rowing Championships and defending my title at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships.
