Argentina wins 70th South American Championships
Chile came out as the top nation in junior rowing, while Argentina was the best at under-23 level. All results combined, Argentina won the title of 2015 South American Champion. Paraguay, Brazil, Peru and Uruguay also claimed medals.
Brazil scored the most medals overall including three golds, eight silvers and six bronze. This meant that Brazil earned medals in all but one event.
During the five-day championships, the South American Rowing Confederation held its Ordinary Congress as well as jury seminars with exams for new candidates.
The Congress of the South American Confederation awarded the location of the South American Rowing Championships through to 2022. It also initiated a study to increase the female quota in events.
This year is the confederation’s 70th anniversary, meaning they have staged 70 championships. The anniversary was celebrated with the inauguration of a new rowing course in Encarnación, Paraguay.
South American senior athletes will be competing at the Pan American Games later this summer. Staged in St Catharines, Canada, the rowing regatta at the Pan American Games will take place from 11 to 15 July.
