The formation of Marcel Hacker and Stephan Krueger into a double has proved to be successful so far at this regatta, despite the duo only having rowed together for a couple of weeks. Today Hacker and Krueger rowing as Germany1, got out to a quick start over Serbia’s Marko Marjanovic and Aleksandar Filipovic. Serbia won their semifinal yesterday and that must have given them a lot of confidence for today’s final.

Going through the middle 1000m, Hacker and Krueger kept the lead but Marjanovic and Filipovic had not let them get away. Then the Germans showed that they had the better stamina and Hacker and Krueger were able to push home to a win. Serbia took silver and Michal Plocek and David Jirka of the Czech Republic were the bronze medallists.

Gold – Marcel Hacker – Germany1

We are going to race at the Europeans in this line-up. We want to compare our speed against the Croatians and Italians. Only after Europeans will we decide which boats we will race in Aiguebelette. But we are really happy to get to race together here.

Silver – Marko Marjanovic – Serbia1

The Germans had a very hard pace from the start. We were trying to keep up with them but they were better prepared than us. Luckily this is just the beginning of the season we still have time to improve. Now we will row in 2x until Europeans and then successfully compete at the World Championships to get an Olympic ticket.

Bronze – Michal Plocek – Czech Republic

It’s our first regatta together. We’ve only been training together for 3 weeks in the double and to row with a partner 12 years older is great as I learn a lot.

B-final

The Netherlands got away first with the fast starting Egypt following closely. Ruben Knab and Stefan Broenick of the Netherlands then managed to push away to a bit of a lead. The duo finished fifth in the Bled International Regatta two days ago and this makes it race number five for these athletes. Knab and Broenick then pushed away to a very handy lead with the advantage of being able to watch the rest of the field. They crossed the line in first.
