There will be 31 nations competing with athletes all having gone through a qualification and selection process. This began with individual indoor rowing scores being submitted to national rowing federations and the Concept2 online logbook.

The selected athletes are a mixture of solely indoor rowing athletes and those that also compete as on-the-water rowers. Some of the top names include the fastest woman in the world on the indoor rowing machine, Olena Buryak of Ukraine. Buryak also rows for the Ukraine rowing national team. Among the men, Great Britain’s Graham Benton will be competing in the 2000m event. Benton is the World Record holder for 40-49 year old heavyweight men.

In the 500m category, Anne Bourlioux will be competing for Canada. She is the World Record holder for the 50-59 year old heavyweight category. The World Record holder for 19-29 year old heavyweight men, Phil Clapp of Great Britain will also be racing.

The World Games is a multi-sport event that features sports that are not included in the Olympic Games programme. It is held every four years in the year after the Olympics and in addition to core sports, there are a number of invitational sports. This year indoor rowing is one of these.
