Para PR1 Men’s Single Sculls
A-final
This category saw a huge entry which meant crews went through heats, repechages and semi-finals to get all the way to this A-final. Reigning world champion Roman Polianskyi of Ukraine looked to be the one to beat and got out to the fastest start.
Hot on his tails was Russia’s Alexy Chuvashev. Chuvashev finished third at last year’s World Championships and has a stack of medals to his name. Moving through the 1000 metres, Polianskyi was in a league of his own and had opened up quite a lead over the field. Sitting in second was Chuvashev, but he was being challenged by both Brazil’s Rene Pereira and Great Britain’s Andrew Houghton.
Houghton raised his rate and moved into medal position. Into the final sprint, the positions remained the same – Polianskyi gold, Chuvashev silver and Houghton bronze.

B-final
Coming through the semi-final, Poland had the fastest qualifying time and quickly found the lead. Comfortably moving away from the field, Jaroslaw Kailing established his rhythm. Lithuania and France were having a good race behind him. Lithuania just managed to get the better of it to finish 8th overall.
