FISA Statement - Death of Refugee Athlete During Training Camp in Zimbabwe
The World Rowing Federation, FISA regrets to announce that a young refugee rower passed away while taking part in a FISA Regional Training Camp in Zimbabwe on Friday, 29 June 2018.
The athlete was participating in an initiative with the Tongogara Refugee Camp in Zimbabwe and had been an enthusiastic and well appreciated athlete. The situation around his death is still being investigated by the authorities.
FISA will be reviewing with the respective National Federations and National Olympic Committees all policies and procedures in place for these types of training camps going forward.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this young athlete, and all the people who he impacted during their short time together at the training camp.
