Lightweight Men’s Quadruple Sculls (LM4x) – Final
A – Final
It was Italy all the way in this first European Championship race for medals. Not only did Italy clear the field but they had a clear water lead for the entire race. This left a very tight race on for second with Russia, the Czechs and the Netherlands all packed tightly together. It took the final sprint for the high rating Czechs to grab silver with the Dutch taking bronze. The Italians had set a new European Best Time.
Results: ITA, CZE, NED, RUS, HUN, NOR
Andrea Micheletti, Italy, gold
“We wanted to just follow our strategy and have a faster start than we did yesterday. We did that and it put us out in front from the strat. I think it was our best race so far.”
Jan Cincibuch (s), Czech Republic, silver
“We had a pretty good start I think, I’m not too sure I was too focused in on the boat. At the 1000 meters we were slightly ahead of NED, so we held on and put in a sprint at the finish. We knew ITA was really fast, so we are happy with this successful race.”
Ward Van Zeijl (s), Netherlands, bronze
“Great race today, we really fly out. At 1000 meters we saw Czech ahead and Yorke shouted GO GO GO from the bow but then we saw the rest of the field close in so really glad to come away with a medal.
