Junior Women’s Quadruple Sculls (JW4x) – Finals
A–Final
Yesterday Germany and the Czech Republic won their respective semifinals with Germany recording the faster time. The Germans recorded a new junior World Best Time earlier in this regatta and they come from a nation with a legacy around the women’s quad. Germany had the fastest pace at the start, rating 46. But there was little in it with the Czech Republic matching the German pace. Switzerland, last year’s bronze medalists, followed in third.
Germany then managed to get a half boat length lead as Switzerland moved up to challenge the Czechs with the Netherlands now really finding their speed. Coming into the final sprint Germany watch the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Czech Republic go neck and neck. Germany was at 39 with Switzerland at 40, the Netherlands at 41 and the Czech Republic at 40. Switzerland had won, Germany was in second and a photo finish for third saw the Netherlands take the bronze by just 0.07 of a second. Switzerland’s time was just two seconds outside of the junior World Best Time.

B-final
Italy had the fastest time from yesterday’s semifinals, but it was Denmark in the lead at the start. Then Italy really found their rhythm and not only got ahead of Denmark, but pushed out to an open water lead. Behind them Denmark held on to second with New Zealand and the United States challenging each other for third. Italy finished beautifully in first.
