Entries open for 2019 World Rowing Indoor Championships

It’s just three and a half months to go until the 2019 World Rowing Indoor Championships in Long Beach, California, USA and entries have now opened for this, the second ever World Rowing indoor championship event.

The event combines three into one, with World Championships, USRowing National Championships and Long Beach Rowing Association’s Beach Sprints events all featuring on the event list. The World Championship events are open to everyone with categories for junior, under-23, master, open and para. There are also non-world championship races in the form of 2000m races, 1000m races, 500m sprints and relay events. The USRowing National Championship events are open to all athletes that hold at least a Basic Membership in USRowing. Unaffiliated U.S. Competitors without US Rowing Basic Membership must purchase a day pass in addition to the entry fee.

To be held on 24 February, 2019 in Long Beach, California, United States, entries can be made online through RegattaCentral up to 31 January 2019 with late entries possible after this date as long as there is capacity to take more entries in the event category.

The event includes some changes to the inaugural indoor championship event which was held in February 2018, primarily in the Masters age categories, which have been brought into line with the on-water masters age categories making for consistency across World Rowing events. The age category will be automatically determined by the registration system according to the competitor’s date of birth.

The World Championship events will all be over the 2000m distance and include para PR1, PR2 and PR3 for classified athletes, masters age categories from A to M in open and lightweight, juniors (under 19), under-23s open and lightweight and open (senior) events in the open and lightweight categories.

Non-championship events include para-rowing PR1, PR2 and PR3 events over 2000m as well as Functional Electronic Stimulation (FES) over 1000m, which will be raced at the Community Rowing Initiative (CRI) in Boston and live-linked in to the Long Beach competition venue. These are divided into age and gender groups. There are also 500m, 1000m and relay races as part of the Beach Sprint categories. 

Para athletes racing in the six events (PR1, PR2 and PR3) designated as World Rowing Indoor Championship events will require FISA Classification. For those athletes that have not yet been classified, a FISA Panel of International Classifiers will be present at Long Beach to classify athletes on Saturday 23 February.
