A-Final

Germany had the fastest time from yesterday’s semifinals with Chile winning the other semi. Italy was the first to show, but it didn’t last long as Germany took over in the lead. Italy came back with Russia up with these two leaders. Germany’s crew included three bronze medallists from last year. Now Italy’s crew of Rocchi, Mascitelli, Tedoldi and Manigrasso moved back into the lead with Russia overtaking Germany.

At the half way mark two seconds separated the top three boats as Italy went for a push. They were at 37 as Germany went for a push. It was just 500m until the gold medal finish line and Italy had the lead. Germany now pressed hard and got their bow ball ahead of Italy with Russia holding on to bronze. Italy at 36 couldn’t stop the German charge at 37. The Germans had won gold.

B-final

It was high rating in this b-final with Romania leading the way. Margins were tight at the half way point with Romania, Canada, Great Britain locked close together. A huge sprint by the British, rating 41, got them up with Romania and the lead just metres before the line.
