Positive confirmed case of Covid-19 ahead of the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta
A member of the Swiss Women’s Quadruple Sculls for the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta (FOQR) has tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday 11 May 2021 before having entered the venue. The PCR test required before being accredited was carried out and the result was confirmed before the Swiss team had travelled to the regatta. The athlete has shown no COVID-19 symptoms but was placed in isolation according to the requirements of the authorities of the Canton of Lucerne. While the other members of the crew, including the reserve athlete, all tested negative they were identified by the Lucerne Cantonal Doctor as close contacts and have also been placed in isolation. The crew will be withdrawn from the FOQR. The remainder of the Swiss team have been confirmed as not being close contacts by the Lucerne Cantonal Doctor, and have all tested negative for COVID-19. They will continue with their participation in the FOQR.
At this stage, the event will continue as planned. The Organising Committee COVID-19 protection concept and local health authority guidance to limit the risk of infection are being followed. All participants at the event are again reminded to follow the protocols in place, including the requirement for a negative PCR test within 72 hours of entering the venue, wearing a mask over the nose and mouth, keeping social distance among and between teams especially during meals, and regularly disinfecting or washing hands.
