Two Anti-Doping Positives from Russian Men’s Quadruple Sculls
The Russian Olympic Committee President announced yesterday that two rowers from the Russian Men’s Quadruple Sculls had received positive results from anti-doping tests. These are cases from out-of-competition testing in June, after the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta, and the consequence for the rowers is immediate provisional suspension blocking their participation in the Tokyo Games. The substance was Meldonium for both rowers. As the tests were after the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta, this boat remains qualified for Tokyo and they are allowed to substitute in other rowers according to the Olympic Qualification System.
World Rowing remains strongly and deeply committed to doping free sport and sincerely regrets to hear about these cases. It is important to state, though, that according to the World Anti-Doping Code, is not allowed for World Rowing to make any comments on a possible anti-doping case, to respect the rights of all parties, until the hearing procedure has concluded. The above information was announced by the Russian Olympic Committee.
