European Rowing Coastal Challenge returns to Italy for 2021
For the second time, the European Rowing Coastal Challenge will take place in Marina di Castagneto, Italy. Scheduled for 28 to 31 October 2021 the Challenge will include both coastal, endurance racing and beach sprint racing.
To be held on the Mediterranean Sea in Italy’s west coast province of Livorno, organisers will be building on last year’s event experience and hoping to attracting larger numbers than the 140 crews that took part in 2020.
Racing will take place over three days with coastal endurance on the first day with a 4.5km heats distance and a 6km finals distance with an on-water start and on-beach finish. The next day will be beach sprints including a complete buoy point turn and an on-beach start and finish. Finals in both events will follow the next day. October 31 will act as a spare day.
Already planning to race is the Olympic super crew which includes lightweight women’s double sculls Olympic Champions from Italy Federica Cesarini and Valentina Rodini partnering up in the coastal coxed quadruple sculls with the Olympic silver medallists from France Claire Bove and Laura Tarantola.
Sponsor of the event, Filippi boat builders will make a large number of coastal rowing boats available. They are hoping to have about 50 boats available with other boatbuilders also welcome to bring their boats.
