The 2022 World Rowing Coaches Conference will again be virtual and is just over a month away, coming to you from 29 January to 2 February.

The extended dates allows for shorter days and also the combining with the youth coaches conference.

The conference offers the opportunity to hear from more than 20 rowing experts and the first chance to hear from World Rowing’s new Executive Director, Vincent Gaillard. Gaillard will be accompanied by President of World Rowing, Jean-Christophe Rolland who will give an update from World Rowing.

The list of speakers includes Olympic medallists Eric Murray and Fran Houghton. From New Zealand, Murray will talk about how to keep a physical and mental edge for performance. Murray will join Volker Nolte in a second session on biomechanics and indoor rowing.

World Rowing development consultant Osvaldo Borchi will talk about training performance athletes when resources are scarce. Borchi will focus on Uruguay’s lightweight men’s double scull that finished sixth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Coastal rowing is highlighted with topics including how to prepare your team to race both beach sprint and endurance. There will analysis of what happened in 2021 at turn 1 as well coastal “know how” from a Spanish coastal expert along with a beach launch and landing specialist from New Jersey Lifeguards. Exciting youth rowers about the discipline and switching from classic rowing to coastal rowing will also be covered

The topic of ‘getting back to training after long Covid’ will be presented by World Rowing’s Chair of the Sports Medicine Commission, Juergen Steinacker.

World Rowing’s coaching director Gianni Postiglione will talk about ‘small athletes and how to get the best from them’. Postiglione was the coach of Stefanos Ntouskos who, at 186cm and weighing 73kg, won the men’s single sculls at the Tokyo Olympics.

There is a chance to hear from the very best coaches whose teams won medals in 2020 Michele Darvill CAN W8+ and Christine Gossé FRA.
