A successful first for rowing at the Pan Am Youth Games
Rowing was featured at the first Pan-Am Youth Games in Cali, Colombia from 1 to 4 December. Sixteen countries took part in that event on Lake Calima, Colombia.
An Olympic Solidarity youth athlete development training camp was also organised by the host nation in cooperation with World Rowing and COPARE prior to the Games, allowing the young rowers to prepare the competition and learn more about the Olympic Values.
Lake Calima welcomed five rowing events with a participation of 101 athletes, 55 men and 46 women, from all over the continent. 67 boats competed in the Men’s and Women’s Single Sculls, Double Sculls, Quadruple Sculls, Pair and Four.
Many young rowers from across America had the unique opportunity to represent their national teams in this prestigious event, with a spirit of friendship and respect, fundamental to the Olympic movement.
The podiums were shared by athletes from Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Cuba and Uruguay and featured names already known in the international scene like Felipe Kluver of Uruguay or Nicole Martinez Gonzalez of Paraguay.
This event was a landmark for youth rowing in the Continent.
