Taking place in Lima, Peru, from 20 to 23 April 2022, on the occasion of the first edition of the Copa America Coastal, World Rowing organised its first coastal rowing course for coaches in the Americas, focused on the discipline of the Beach Sprints.

The coaching course, as well as the subsequent regatta, is hosted by the Peruvian Rowing Federation within the facilities of the rowing club “Regatas Lima”. The same venue was the host of the 2015 World Coastal Rowing Championships.

The course involved 18 coaches from several countries in Central and South America. The nations represented included Barbados, Bahamas, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Uruguay, Peru, and Brazil.

A theoretical component to the course, which took place online in the few days preceding the event, was completed with the practical sessions which took place in Lima.

The course allowed the coaches to get specific knowledge and experience on the Beach Sprints format, which many of them were exposed to for the first time. One of the objectives of the course is for the coaches to now be able to set up Beach Sprints training and regattas in their own countries, thus contributing to the growth of this discipline.

The event Copa America Coastal, running from 20 to 23 April 2022, includes competitions in the Endurance format (6 km), the Beach Sprints, and a long-distance crossing of the bay of Lima (23 km), only open to quad crews. The event involves more than 100 athletes from 11 American continent nations.

The event is streamed and can be followed at this link: https://www.facebook.com/fpr.pe/videos/736855347474043/

Later in the year, the 2022 World Rowing Coastal Championships and Beach Sprint Finals will take place in Pembrokeshire, Great Britain, from 7 to 9 October (the Coastal Championships discipline) and 14 to 16 October (the Beach Sprint Finals).
