Japan Rowing builds on Tokyo 2020 Legacy Programme with Indoor Rowing event
As part of the Tokyo 2020 Legacy Programme series, Japan Rowing has hosted a two day indoor rowing event at Tokushima Municipal High School. Total of 130 attendees (University and High School Rowers, Elementary School Basketball team from nearby) gathered at the event. The event was lead by 5 ex-Elite team rowers (Takeda (OLY), Kataoka-Iwamoto(OLY), Hase(OLY), Sugito, Wakai). The crowd enjoyed the talk event related to Olympic Legacy programmes, issues related to Olympism and development of rowing on the first day. On the second day, indoor rowing coaching session and racing took place. High school rowers were eagerly asking for rowing tips to the Olympians.
Surprisingly, basketball team kids from nearby elementary school jumped into the event, and were able to enjoy their first ever row on the erg, meeting with the Olympians and took a memorial photo with the replica of the Olympic Flame Torch.
Japan Rowing is schedule to hold their 2024 Virtual Indoor Rowing championships on the 3rd of February, 2024.
