Comments Kukidome Takeshi, Vice President of Japan Sport Council: “We are thrilled to showcase the virtual rowing experience during the Olympic Games Paris 2024 as part of our dedicated efforts to enhance the legacy of the Tokyo 2020 Games. This initiative aligns with the international joint research MOU we signed with our strategic partner, World Rowing, last November.

This innovative sport is open to people of all ages throughout the event. We firmly believe this approach not only provides training opportunities for elite athletes but also offers children, seniors, and individuals with less mobility the chance to engage in sports, thereby contributing to the enhancement of overall life performance.

Next month in October, the Sports Day Festival is scheduled to be held in Tokyo. This event commemorates the legacy of the Olympic Games Tokyo 1964. On the day, 15,000 parents and children are expected to participate. We will take this valuable opportunity to offer a virtual rowing experience and further build on this momentum.

Furthermore, we look forward to deepening our collaboration with World Rowing and advance international joint research to the next phase.”

A Growing Partnership on the Global Stage

This event marks another significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between World Rowing and the Japan Sports Council, which has been focused on lifelong health and fitness – integrating traditional sports with modern technology. The activation at the Paris 2024 Olympics exemplified this vision, offering a glimpse into how sports can evolve to meet the needs of a diverse and digitally connected world. This activation serves as a powerful example of how Olympic Legacy and technological innovation can come together to create memorable and impactful experiences. We set forth the concept “from High Performance to Life Performance,” as it is important to widely deploy knowledge gained in the area of high performance to society.
