European Rowing and EUSA sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen University Rowing Across Europe
On the occasion of the 23rd International Rowing Regatta Sveti Duje in Split, Croatia, European Rowing and the European University Sports Association (EUSA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation and advance university Rowing across Europe.
The agreement, formally signed by ERB President Annamarie Phelps and EUSA President Adam Roczek, outlines a shared commitment to foster participation in university sport—specifically Rowing—through joint initiatives, event collaboration, and strengthened partnerships between member organisations.
Held in Croatia, the signing took place during the regatta’s fifth edition under the patronage of EUSA. Through this new partnership, the ERB and EUSA will work together to promote their respective events, including the European Universities Games and Championships, as well as key European Rowing events. The collaboration will also include knowledge sharing, event alignment, and the identification of new areas for strategic growth.
Several concrete actions have already been identified, including greater coordination of umpiring practices, alignment on competition regulations, standardisation of organisational procedures, and closer integration of events calendars. These steps are designed to build consistency and momentum within the university rowing community, while strengthening connections between national Rowing federations and university sport bodies.
Rowing has been part of the EUSA programme since 2007, and 2025 will mark its 18th year in the European Universities Championships and Games. The next edition of the European Universities Rowing Championship will take place in Bydgoszcz, Poland, from 18–21 September 2025.
“University Rowing is a vital part of our sport’s ecosystem—developing talent, creating lifelong connections, and reinforcing the values of teamwork and excellence, said Annamarie Phelps, President of European Rowing. This agreement with EUSA is a significant step forward in aligning our efforts and ensuring that student-athletes across Europe have meaningful, high-quality opportunities to row, compete, and grow.”
