A stellar line up for the final leg of the 2025 Filippi Lido Trophy
The 2025 Filippi Lido Trophy concludes with the final leg of the four-round Beach Sprint regattas taking place this weekend. This follows exciting racing in three earlier qualification rounds in Mondello (Palermo) in March, and in Lazise and Taranto in May. The concluding race is being hosted in Marina di Castagneto (Livorno, Italy), the home of Filippi.
David Filippi, son of Lido, the founder of the Filippi boatyard and President of the organising committee, says, “Our stated intention is to bring the world’s best specialists to Marina di Castagneto.”
Their goal looks set to be achieved, with a strong international line-up expected, a new feature of this year’s edition. Sixteen nations are represented, encompassing over 300 rowers from the USA, UK, France, Egypt, Tunisia, Croatia, Romania, and others. Athletes across the three Olympic disciplines will be competing for a €20,000 prize pool.
After three stages of competition, the current leaders in the prize pool categories are Tabea Minichmayr (Austria) in the women’s single, Giovanni Ficarra (Italy) in the men’s single, and Batista-Costa (Portugal) in the mixed double.
This is supported by a huge investment in production value, including a team of five cameramen, drones, and ten crew members dedicated to audio and video services, along with a resident DJ who will “set the rhythm of the competition.” Live footage of the races, complete with on-screen timing of the main competitors, will be showcased on the big screen positioned behind the main stage.
The stellar line-up reflects the growing profile of Beach Sprints, with many competing athletes holding World Rowing championship honours, including Italy’s Giovanni Ficarra, Austria’s sisters Magdalena and Katharina Lobnig, Sweden’s Dennis Gustavsson, and former Italian Olympic champion Federica Cesarini.
Filippi is acting as the main sponsor and exclusive supplier of equipment, alongside Concept2 USA and NK USA and with support from the Italian Rowing Federation.
With Beach Sprint Rowing set to be incorporated as an Olympic discipline in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, alongside Classic Rowing, Filippi is playing their part in the development of elite-level competition. This is further underlined with Filippi confirming that their support and sponsorship of the Filippi Beach Sprint Trophy will extend through to 2028.
The competition will be live-streamed from 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 7 until Sunday, June 8 (with the awards ceremony at 2:00 PM Italian time) on the Filippi Boats YouTube channel.
