The Filippi Lido Trophy, established by the Italian Rowing Federation and proudly named after Lido Filippi, concluded with great momentum in Marina di Castagneto.

Across the four stages held in Mondello, Lazise, Taranto and Marina di Castagneto, an average of 300 athletes competed, with the final stage welcoming participants from 16 countries across three continents. This level of engagement, especially for a first international edition, is an encouraging sign for the future of Beach Sprint Rowing.

“As organisers, we are very pleased with the results achieved,” said Raimondo Bongini speaking on behalf of the Organising Committee. As a club-based regatta series, the competition benefited significantly from the support of World Rowing and the promotional efforts of the European Coastal Challenge Association, Tuscany Region, Municipality of Castagneto Carducci and the Filippi team, the event’s main partner. According to Bongini, “We have made a real investment in this project and we hope it will bear fruit in the years to come, especially as we build toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.”

Each venue brought its own character and atmosphere. The conditions also varied, showing the need to be prepared for all scenarios. While Mondello offered crystalline waters, Marina di Castagneto, with its vast beaches, delivered a spectacular conclusion. The second and third round in Lazise (Garda lake) and Taranto (Apulia) offered different conditions, making the international points circuit even more exciting.

The final leg also stood out for the high standard of competition, in both the senior and junior categories. “Many participants remarked how it felt like a world-class regatta,” Bongini noted.

The competition series was a great way to showcase Filippi’s newly launched line of Beach Sprint and Coastal boats, which received enthusiastic reception from the athletes. These featured a striking new colour design and fully carbon equipment, including performance-driven riggers that echo those used in flat-water racing.

While the circuit showed clear promise, there is room for growth. Looking ahead, the goal is to further increase participation and interest. They are encouraged by the many teams who have already expressed their intention to complete in all stages in the next edition. Bongini stresses the importance of working closely with national federations for the future development of this Trophy and acknowledges that despite the exceptionally generous prize pot for rowing, barriers remain for participants due to costs and transport in a four-legged regatta system.

The organising team is already working hard to make the next edition unforgettable.
