World Rowing Tour 2025: A Historic Chapter in Berlin
The 61st edition of the World Rowing Tour marked a symbolic and emotional milestone as it returned to Germany—where the very first FISA Tour was held in 1972—to conclude its storied legacy. Hosted in Berlin from 25–31 May 2025, this final edition was organised at the invitation of Angela Haupt, Vice-President of LRV Berlin, in collaboration with Thomas Haarhoff (LRV Schleswig-Holstein), Axel Müller Asensio (Managing Director LRV Berlin), the LRV Brandenburg and the German Rowing Federation.
A city steeped in rowing heritage, Berlin offered a uniquely fitting backdrop for the tour’s conclusion. With over 60 rowing clubs lining its rivers and lakes—Spree, Havel, Dahme, and beyond—Berlin has long been a hub for both elite and recreational rowing. Participants were immersed in the city’s rowing culture, visiting the historic regatta course in Grünau, which hosted the 1936 Olympic Games and has since united rowers from East and West.
The tour route traced an unforgettable journey: beginning in the eastern part of Berlin on the river Müggel, passing through Müggelsee, Setinsee, and the rivers Dahme and Spree, before crossing the heart of Berlin—made possible by a special exemption and water police escort—and continuing westward on the Havel. Along the way, rowers joined the “Sternfahrt Arkona,” an Ascension Day gathering of Berlin clubs, and ultimately reached Potsdam’s Seekrug Clubhouse.
Beyond Rowing, participants enjoyed cultural highlights including a tour of the Bundestag (Reichstag) in Berlin and a visit to the German Watersport Museum, housed in the historic grandstand at Grünau. Memorable dinners took place at the boathouses of RG Wiking and the prestigious Berliner Ruderclub, as well as at the Berlin Rowing Association headquarters.
Fifty rowers from twelve nations took part in this special edition, expressing heartfelt thanks during the farewell evening in Potsdam. Distinguished guests, including Wolfgang Maennig (Honorary President, German NF) and the President of the Berlin Sports Federation, joined in marking this historic occasion.
“World Rowing Tours have always been a showcase for representing our sport, said Andrea Ranner, organiser of the World Rowing Tour. The event brought together Rowing enthusiasts from around the World. Participants can explore scenic coastlines, lakes or rivers and build lasting friendships. The tour is a non-competitive format and designed for rowers of all skill levels, promoting the sport of Rowing, cultural exchange, and the joy of exploring new places by water.”
