A Successful First Edition for the 2025 World Rowing Virtual Series
The 2025 World Rowing Virtual Series has come to a close, marking the end of a four-month journey that brought together hundreds of Indoor and Connected rowers from around the world.
Launched earlier this year as a new initiative to bring the Indoor/Connected Rowing community closer through digital participation, the first edition of the Virtual Series proved to be a success. More than 300 competitors took part across four monthly challenges, highlighting the growing diversity and inclusivity of Indoor/Connected Rowing — from seasoned Indoor Rowing athletes to fitness enthusiasts discovering the sport for the first time.
Each monthly challenge tested a different aspect of rowing performance, encouraging athletes to push their limits and stay engaged through varied formats and distances. The global participation showcased how Indoor/Connected rowing continues to break barriers of access, allowing rowers from all backgrounds and regions to compete on equal terms.
Amongst the great performances to be highlighted, Var Guriardottir Hansen of Denmark, who won three out of the four challenges offered and finished at the top of the rankings on the women’s side. On the men’s side, it was Anders Edquist of Sweden who finished first in the rankings, with great consistency amongst all four challenges.
Winners of the fourth and final challenge will now have the opportunity to compete at the upcoming World Rowing Versa Challenge in Singapore, taking place in just a few weeks’ time. The event will serve as the culmination of the Virtual Series, bringing the online competition into an exciting live format.
Encouraged by the strong participation and community spirit of this first edition, World Rowing has announced that the World Rowing Virtual Series will return in 2026, with a refreshed version taking into account feedback and learnings from this year. New challenges and opportunities for rowers are to be expected.
The 2025 Virtual Series has demonstrated the growing potential of Indoor/Connected Rowing to unite the global Rowing community.
