World Rowing, the international governing body of the Olympic sport of Rowing, announced today a multi-year media rights partnership with Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), Portugal’s public-service broadcaster.

This agreement represents a further step in World Rowing’s strategic approach to increasing visibility and accessibility for Rowing across key international markets. Portugal’s longstanding tradition in Classic Rowing, together with its growing engagement in Beach Sprint Rowing, positions the country as an important territory supporting Beach Sprint Rowing’s continued development in the lead-up to its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Beginning in 2026, RTP’s coverage will include the World Rowing Championships, the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals and the European Rowing Championships. The multi-year framework provides sustained visibility across both Classic Rowing and Coastal Rowing disciplines in Portugal, reflecting the sport’s heritage while supporting its continued evolution.

Under the agreement, audiences in Portugal will benefit from comprehensive live event coverage, highlights programming, and episodes of World Rowing’s forthcoming magazine series, complemented by dedicated features designed to engage both established Rowing communities and new audiences discovering the sport.

Says Miguel Barroso, Director of Sport at RTP: “Rowing holds a proud and enduring place in Portuguese sporting culture, closely connected to our maritime heritage and coastal identity. Bringing World Rowing’s flagship events to RTP reflects our commitment to Olympic disciplines and to delivering high-quality sport to our audiences. By showcasing these competitions, we aim to provide enhanced visibility to a new discipline that combines tradition, innovation and Olympic relevance as we look toward LA28. We are particularly pleased to have secured the broadcast rights for the upcoming World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals to be staged in Portugal in 2027 – an event that will offer a great opportunity to celebrate the sport on home waters and connect national audiences with a landmark international competition, and provide wider exposure to Portuguese rowers, who have recently achieved great success in this discipline.”

“Partnering with RTP allows us to present Rowing with the focus and continuity the sport deserves within an important European market,” said Christian Osterode, Head of Broadcast & Marketing at World Rowing. “This partnership establishes a dedicated broadcast platform for our premier events across different Olympic disciplines and competitions while reinforcing our presence in a territory that plays a meaningful role in the development of Beach Sprint Rowing. The agreement provides long-term visibility for our events and athletes as we continue to strengthen our international media presence.”
