Rowing Programme of the Year Award

The “Rowing Programme of the Year” award has been launched in 2024 to spotlight and celebrate Rowing programmes that set the benchmark for excellence and holistic development in the sport.

By recognising these outstanding programmes, World Rowing aims to inspire a standard of excellence that other universities, clubs, or schools can aspire to, promoting a culture of high achievement, integrity, and continuous improvement in club, school and university Rowing. This World Rowing Award seeks to commend those who elevate the sport, encouraging a competitive and community spirit and a commitment to fostering talent, sportsmanship, and academic achievement within the Rowing community.

To be eligible for the “Rowing Programme of the Year” Award, programmes are recommended to meet the following criteria:

  • The programme cannot be owned, operated or directly affiliated with the Member Federation. This excludes programmes for/of National high-performance teams.
  • Programmes should have a demonstrated track record of Rowing success at the national and/or international level.
  • Programmes are not limited to a single discipline Classic Rowing programmes. Coastal Rowing, Indoor Rowing and multi-discipline Programmes are eligible for this award.
  • Applicants need to showcase a well-rounded approach to athlete development, including physical training, community support and mental well-being.
  • The program should actively engage with the Rowing community and contribute to the sport’s growth and outreach.
  • A clear commitment to ethical practices, sportsmanship, and inclusivity.

How do you make a nomination?

The “Rowing Programme of the Year” can be nominated by its own members or another individual or organisation. The nomination will be made through an online form on the World Rowing website.

Who will judge the nominations?

​The first stage is a public nomination, which the Rowing Programme of The Year Award Panel will select the finalists and recommend a winner, where thereafter the Executive Committee will make the final decision.

When will the award be presented?

The ultimate recipient of the Rowing Programme of the Year Award will unveiled during the World Rowing Awards, spotlighting their achievements in 2024.
