ABOUT THE VENUE
City of Genoa
Genoa places itself as a destination of excellence on the Italian and international tourist market as an Urban Destination. Genoa boasts one of the largest medieval historical centers in Europe and a UNESCO site, “The New Roads and the Palazzi dei Rolli system”; the picturesque landscape typical of the Ligurian Riviera, which can be enjoyed in the seaside villages of Boccadasse, Nervi and Pegli; the Aquarium, which boasts the largest exhibition in Europe of aquatic biodiversity; the large museum heritage with its 33 museums within 10km ranging from art, world cultures to natural sciences.
Since the Middle Ages and the time of Christopher Columbus, Genoa has been one of the most important maritime and port centers in Europe and continues to be the Italian capital of yachting. The sea is its most authentic dimension. The values of the city are those of sea people, and are also founding values of the culture of sport: pride, strength, dedication, authenticity, teamwork, respect for nature.
Genoa is therefore the ideal venue for coastal sporting events. In June 2023, the first city in Italy, will host the final stage of The Ocean Race, a legendary event, which together with the Olympics and America’s Cup represents the grand slam of sailing and which celebrates its 50th anniversary.
For 2024, Genoa has been designated the European Capital of Sport, which will bring dozens of prestigious sporting events to the city.
In 2024, a full calendar of sporting, competitive and amateur events is planned for athletes, young and old: at least 1,000 events in the metropolitan area of Genoa of which 50 international, 350 national, 50 Paralympic, 250 cultural events, among these the main important event will be the World Rowing Beach Sprint and the World Rowing Coastal Championship in the first half of September.
