EVENT DESCRIPTION

The 2024 World Rowing Cup I will be hosted 12-14 April in Varese, Italy. This will be the first event of the 2024 World Cup Series.

The World Rowing Cups are an annual series of three regattas that act as a lead-up to the World Rowing Championships. World Rowing Cups are held over three days with a progression system from heats through to finals. Racing at the World Rowing Cup includes the 14 Olympic boat classes and a selection of International boat classes. Para Rowing is contested at some World Cups. Each Olympic boat class earns points based on the finishing order. The highest placing boat from a country is awarded the following points:

1^st = 8 points, 2^nd = 6 points, 3^rd = 5 points, 4^th = 4 points, 5^th = 3 points, 6^th = 2 points, 7^th = 1 point

ELIGBILITY

World Rowing Cup regattas shall be open to all competitors who are authorised to compete by their member federation and who are eligible under the relevant rules. To represent a Member Federation in a World Rowing Cup regatta, a rower must be a citizen of that country or a bona fide member of the rowing club for which they compete in that country. In World Rowing Cup events at World Rowing Cup regattas, rowers shall compete under the name of their Member Federation that shall alone be entitled to enter them.

Each member federation may enter a maximum of four crews in each event of the 1^st World Rowing Cup regatta and a maximum of two crews in each event of the 2^nd and 3^rd World Rowing Cup regattas.

ABOUT THE VENUE

Varese is located in the Northern part of Italy, 55km north of Milan. The town lies at the foot of the Campo dei Fiori mountain range overlooking Lake Varese. It has a population of approximately 80 000. Lake Varese is 8.8km long and 4.5km wide. Varese has hosted the Coupe de la Jeunesse in 2007, the 2012 and 2021 European Rowing Championships, the 2013 World Rowing Masters Regatta, the 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, the 2022 Combined U19 & U23 World Championships and World Rowing Cups in 2015, 2016 and 2023.
