ABOUT ST CATHARINES

The Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course is the site of the 2024 World Rowing Championships. This world class rowing facility is located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada in the historic waterfront village of Port Dalhousie. This national and international centerpiece of rowing was constructed on Martindale Pond in 1903 as a permanent venue for the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. The rowing course and facilities have had significant renovations and upgrades over the past 100+ years, most recently for the 2022 Canada Summer Games and the 2015 Pan American Games. The facility has hosted multiple international events including World Championship events in 2010, 1999, and initially in 1970. The facility has a fully buoyed, 8 lane 2000m course that was built on the location of the first Welland Canal. The course has a total length of 2300m and is surrounded and sheltered by tree lined shores and the historic homes of Port Dalhousie. Other facilities include fixed starting gates, permanent buildings for start and finish officiating, spectator facilities that include a covered 2500 seat grandstand and ample shoreline viewing within the bottom 250m of the race course. Crews will launch from Henley Island where facilities include two boathouses, a rowing alumni social clubhouse, refreshment and vendor areas, boat trailer parking and shell storage areas, regatta offices and an indoor rowing training facility.
