EVENT DESCRIPTION
The European Rowing Championships are among the oldest pan-continental sporting events and are able to trace their history back to 1893. The event has progressed a long way from its 19th century origins with just three races and all for men.
The European Rowing Championships were staged almost annually from 1893 to 1973, after which they were replaced by the World Rowing Championships. A European Rowing Championships event was reintroduced into the international rowing calendar in 2007. In 2013, the championships moved to an early season spot and have become an integral event for many teams.
The 2025 European Rowing Championships will take place 29 May – 01 June in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

ABOUT THE VENUE
The regatta course Plovdiv is an artificial canal with total length of 2300m, that was specially designed by the architect Valentine Marinov with chief consultant Svetla Otzetova to meet the contemporary requirements for staging major water sport events. The location of the course was estimated very precisely to be surrounded by the natural forests, offering fair and equal conditions in all lanes. In addition to that the direction of the course is East / West, which is parallel to the direction of the prevailing winds.
