EVENT DESCRIPTION

The European Rowing Championships are among the oldest pan-continental sporting events and are able to trace their history back to 1893. The event has progressed a long way from its 19^th century origins with just three races and all for men.

The European Rowing Championships were staged almost annually from 1893 to 1973, after which they were replaced by the World Rowing Championships. A European Rowing Championships event was reintroduced into the international rowing calendar in 2007. In 2013, the championships moved to an early season spot and have become an integral event for many European teams.

The 2026 European Rowing Championships will be hosted 31 July – 02 August in Varese, Italy.

The 2026 event programmes will be published in January 2026. Please see below the key event dates and times:

- Official opening of the venue: Wednesday, 29 July
- Team Managers' Meeting & Draw: Thursday, 30 July, 15:00 hrs
- First race: Friday, 31 July, morning
- Start of the last race: Sunday, 02 August, no later than 15:00 hrs

Mix: 2x, 8+

Para-rowing (PR): PR1 W1x, PR1 M1x, PR2 Mix2x, PR3 Mix2x, PR3 Mix4+

The entry deadline for the 2026 European Rowing Championships is:

ELIGIBILITY

All European Rowing Member Federations (including Israel) shall be eligible to compete in the European Rowing Championships. An athlete must present a valid passport from the country for which they wish to compete. (as per the European Rowing Rules of Racing).

ABOUT THE VENUE

Varese is located in the Northern part of Italy, 55km north of Milan. The town lies at the foot of the Campo dei Fiori mountain range overlooking Lake Varese. It has a population of approximately 80 000. Lake Varese is 8.8km long and 4.5km wide. Varese has hosted the Coupe de la Jeunesse in 2007, the 2012 and 2021 European Rowing Championships, the 2013 World Rowing Masters Regatta, the 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, the 2022 combined World Rowing U19 & U23 Championships and World Rowing Cups in 2015, 2016, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
