Canadian Olympian Hallett Retires From Competition
Three-time Olympian and Pan American Games medallist Todd Hallett of Canada announced his retirement yesterday (Monday) from international competition.
The 31-year-old first made the Canadian team in 1991 earning a bronze medal in the single sculls at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba. The following year he stroked the double sculls to a seventh place finish at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. In 1994 he switched to sweep rowing placing 11th in the men’s eight at the World Rowing Championships and earning a silver medal at the 1995 Pan American Games before going back to the double sculls. Hallett took another seventh place finish at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, and 13th place at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He finished off his career where he started, in the single scull – placing ninth at last year’s World Rowing Championships in Lucerne.

“Rowing has been an incredible part of my life,” said Hallett “From the fun as a junior at Mic Mac AAC in Dartmouth to representing Canada at the Olympic Games, it has been a rewarding journey. Some of my best memories will marching in the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and all the many friendships along the way, including meeting my wife Emma (Taylor) through rowing friends in Halifax.”
“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career, especially my family who has stuck with me through all circumstances, my coaches, teammates and all my friends across the country.”
