World Rowing, the official governing body for the sport of rowing, is continuing with its Strategic Event Attribution Process (SEAP) in 2022. This process recognises that many regatta venues have benefited from significant investment by local, regional and national governments, to bring them to a standard suitable for hosting international competitions.

Launched again at the end of 2021, the SEAP offers a more strategic and long-term approach to attributing World Rowing events. This edition of the SEAP allows interested parties to indicate which of the World and European Rowing-owned events between 2024 and 2026 that they believe would support their long-term events strategy. There are 22 events open to bidding for the period spanning from 2024 to 2026, including the 2025 and 2026 World Rowing Championships.

The first major milestone, the submission of preliminary bids, was reached on 29 April 2022.  At the time of the deadline, 15 Member Federations submitted bids from 24 rowing venues, with the German Rowing Federation putting forward five venues for contention and the Chinese, Italian, and Turkish Rowing Federations putting forward multiple.

Regulars on the World Rowing event circuit like Linz-Ottensheim (AUT), Plovdiv (BUL), Racice (CZE), and Varese (ITA) have also put in bids. Several venues that have not hosted World Rowing level events for many years have stepped forward again including Amsterdam (NED), Sarasota-Bradenton (USA) and Ioannina (GRE). Bidders have expressed interest from Europe, Asia, Oceania, and North America.

Moving into the final stage of the process, bidders have until 11 July 2022 to finalise all details and present final bids including financial guarantees. A complete review of all bid documentation will then be done by World Rowing to ensure that all standards have been met.

All World Rowing Championships, World Rowing Under 23 Championships, and World Rowing Under 19 Championship events will be attributed by the World Rowing Congress, on 26 September 2022 in Racice, CZE. The World Rowing Cup, World Rowing Coastal Championships and World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals will be attributed directly by the World Rowing Council and announced at the same Congress. European Rowing events will be attributed by the European Rowing Extraordinary General Assembly also in Racice, CZE.
