World Rowing is proud to announce that Para Rowing will be included in the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games programme.

Following an extensive review process, the International Paralympic Committee Governing Board has now confirmed the inclusion of Para rowing on the LA28 Paralympic Games programme through the International Federation application process.

A record 33 Para sports had submitted applications to the International Paralympic Committee to be considered for inclusion in the LA28 Paralympic Games sport programme. It will be the sixth straight appearance for Para rowing at the Paralympic Games.

“This is a great news for our sport and our organisation, said World Rowing President, Jean-Christophe Rolland. This decision represents a major step in the continuous growth of the discipline, strengthening its presence in the Paralympic movement. We look forward to working with the International Paralympic Committee and the Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee in the preparations for the Games.”

The Paralympic Games is held every four years. Para rowing was introduced into the Paralympic programme in 2005 and was held for the first time at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

Qualification regattas are held to select the quota of 104 athletes that will compete at the Games. There are five boat classes: PR1 men’s single sculls, PR1 women’s single sculls, PR2 mixed double sculls, PR3 mixed double sculls and PR3 mixed coxed four.

The Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games will take place between 15-27 August 2028.
