Some of the best single scullers in the world will compete at this weekend’s SilverSkiff regatta in Turin, Italy. Raced over 11km it’s a true endurance event with twists and turns along the River Po.

Over 700 athletes will be taking part in the SilverSkiff race for single scullers with the KinderSkiff and Vintage SilverSkiff also attracting a large field.

Ther are 24 Countries competing include Switzerland, Croatia, France, Great Britain, and Australia. Taking out starting position one will be Gabriel Soares of Italy. Soares raced for Italy in the lightweight men’s double sculls and finished third at this year’s World Rowing Championships. Soares won the SilverSkiff in 2022 and did it in course-record time.

In number two position is Koen Metsemakers who was second in the SilverSkiff last year. The Dutch sculler is part of his country’s top quadruple sculls. They won the Tokyo Olympics and this year took out the top spot at the World Rowing Championships.

Regular SilverSkiff competitors Martin and Valent Sinkovic of Croatia will be in place three and four respectively. Martin was third in the SilverSkiff in 2022 with Valent coming in sixth. The sibling duo won the pair at the Tokyo Olympics. They then switched to racing the double sculls and finished second at this year’s World Rowing Championships.

Leading the women starters will be Roos de Jong of the Netherlands followed by Diana Dymchenko of Azerbaijan. They finished one – two at last year’s SilverSkiff and both race internationally for their country. De Jong is in the quadruple sculls that finished second at the World Rowing Championships. Dymchenko races the single internationally in classic rowing as well as coastal. She comes to Turin on the back of finishing second recently at the 2023 World Rowing Coastal Championships.

The third starter for the women is Olivia Negrinotti of Switzerland. Negrinotti last raced internationally at the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.

This is the 32nd SliverSkiff. It began as a race between friends and over time it has grown to become an international event. This year 44 per cent of the participants are from outside of Italy.
