World Rowing is pleased to announce the launch of the bidding process for the:

  • 2025, 2026 World Rowing Indoor Championships
  • 2025, 2026 European Rowing Indoor Championships
  • 2025, 2026, 2027 World Rowing Coastal Championships and Beach Sprint Finals
  • 2026, 2027 European Rowing Coastal and Beach Sprint Championships

Applying a strategic approach to the attribution of World Rowing and European Rowing events, World Rowing has developed a Strategic Event Attribution Process (SEAP), designed to allow prospective hosts to take a long-term approach over the hosting of major events across the three disciplines of Classic, Coastal and Indoor Rowing.

Following the recent launch of the attribution process for 2025-2028 World Rowing Cups, a staple of the annual Classic Rowing calendar, World Rowing is now opening a similar process for the attribution of major events in the disciplines of Coastal/Beach Sprint and Indoor Rowing.

Connecting Olympic dreams with the thrill of mastering the elements and the beach culture, the Coastal / Beach Sprint Rowing discipline is incredibly exciting. Already viewed in more than 100 countries, our pinnacle Event is now expecting exponential global media consumption as the world sees a new sport launch into the Olympic arena. Elite performance and mass participation, fun and ‘festivalisation’, combine to deliver a product that literally brings people to the water’s edge.

The debut of Beach Sprints in the LA28 Olympic Games has presented World Rowing and prospective event hosts with an extraordinary opportunity. All elements are now assembled to make an attractive, impactful product for coastal Cities, Regions and iconic beaches around the world, ‘on the road to LA28’.

Fully embracing the modern trends of healthy living and connected fitness, Indoor Rowing is enjoying worldwide, exponential growth. No longer just a training tool for Classic Rowing enthusiasts, the humble yet iconic ‘ergometer’ has become the “go-to” machine for a global movement of activity, wellness and sport gamification.

This past June, Indoor Rowing was one of just a handful of sports chosen to exhibit at the recent IOC Esports week in Singapore. More recently, the IOC announced that they were actively considering the creation of Olympic Esports Games, further demonstrating a belief in the extraordinary growth potential of Esports. In this fast-changing environment, Indoor/Connected Rowing, which combines genuine physical performance with virtual and gaming elements, offers an exciting alternative.

As we continue to develop this innovative and fast-growing discipline of the Rowing family, World Rowing invites cities to participate in the future of connected sport and host the World Rowing & European Rowing Indoor Championships.

Interested cities are invited to submit an expression of interest before Friday 12 January 2024. For any additional information, please send an email to matt.draper@worldrowing.com.
