The 4th World Rowing Virtual Coaches Conference will take place Friday 26 – Sunday 28 January 2024.  The conference will be a mixture of live and recorded webinars and Zoom sessions, where participants can interact with the speakers and ask questions. Registration for the Coaches Conference is open to anyone. Please register here The early bird fee (until Sunday 31 December 2023) is 35 CHF, and the standard fee (from Monday 1 January 2024) is 40 CHF.

Friday 26 January 

Session 1, 13:00 – 14:00 CET  

Introduction and welcome to the 2024 Coaches Conference, Rosie Mayglothling, Chair of the World Rowing Competitive Commission.  

World Rowing update, Jean-Christophe Rolland, President of World Rowing, and Vincent Gaillard, Executive Director of World Rowing. 

Session 2, 14:00 – 15:00 CET  

How other endurance sports develop their athletes, Malcolm Brown and Lars Ljung. 

Malcolm Brown is the coach of the very successful Leeds Triathlon Group, which includes 5 Word Champions and Olympic Medallists.  

Lars Ljung is a member of the coaching team of the successful Swedish Cross Country Ski Team. 

 

Saturday 27 January

Introduction by World Rowing Competitive Commission.  

Session 1: Preparing your development nation for success, Nebojsa Ilic and Marco Galeone. 

Nebojsa Ilic will present his experience working with Moldova and coaching the Türkiye national rowing team. Marco Galeone will present his success with Para Rowing in South Africa. 

Session 2: Challenges in developing muscle peak power and muscle endurance in rowing, Prof. Dr. Richard Jaspers.  

Prof. Dr. Richard Jaspers is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, Physiology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, as well as a Full Professor in the fields of Rehabilitation & Development and Tissue Function & Regeneration. 

Session 3: Weather Monitoring at Paris 2024, Henk-Jan Zwolle  

Henk-Jan Zwolle is a member of the World Rowing Competitive Commission Member. He will give an update on the weather monitoring at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Session 1: How to be successful at Beach Sprint rowing, Guin Batten. 

Guin Batten, OLY,  is chair of the World Rowing Coastal Rowing Commission. She will present a selection of key skills required to be successful in this newly-Olympic discipline. 

Session 2: Using technology in the boat to develop individuals and crew boats, Conny Draper. 

Conny Draper, PhD, is a member of the World Rowing Equipment and Technology Commission and an Applied Sports Biomechanist. Conny offers her service as a biomechanics consultant to many national rowing federations, universities and clubs around the world. 

Session 3: Doubling up in major competitions: How to be successful, Antonio Colamonici 

Antonio Colamonici is a member of the World Rowing Youth Commission and Head Coach of the Romanian Rowing Team. Antonio experienced great success in the 2023 season, winning 4 gold medals at the European Rowing Championships, Bled and 2 gold medals in the World Rowing Championships, Belgrade.
