The World Rowing Congress ready to attribute the 2027 World Rowing Championships
The 2024 World Rowing Ordinary Congress will be held virtually on 16 November using video-conferencing and online voting technology. Its will be live streamed on World Rowing’s YouTube Channel.
As was the case at the 2020 Extraordinary Congress, as well as the 2021 Ordinary Congress, the Lumi secure online electronic voting system and the Zoom video conferencing platform will be used to ensure a safe environment while providing room for interaction.
Delegates from World Rowing’s 159 member federations have been invited, as well as World Rowing recognised Continental Rowing Confederations, Member Groupings, and observers are welcome to follow. Member Federations are allowed up to three delegates, of which only one is a voting delegate; however, to accredit more than one delegate to the Congress, both genders must be represented in the Member Federation’s delegation.
The following elections will take place:
- Council elections for the casual vacancy of Chair of the Competitive Commission,
- Elections of two members of the Council to the Executive Committee.
Furthermore, important decisions will be voted on:
- The recommendation of the Council for the determination of entrance fee and annual subscription: with the annual subscriptions not indexed since 20 years and the governance and other costs of World Rowing having increased over the years, the Council will recommend an updated tier system for the annual subscription – executive summary,
- The attribution of the 2027 World Rowing Championships in accordance with Rule 5: bid assessments of Lucerne and Varese.
- The Council recommendation to admit the Sierra Leone Rowing Federation as a new member of World Rowing.
Agenda papers (EN – FR), budget forecast 2024 and 2025 budget as of 01/11/2024 as well as other information about the Congress are available on World Rowing congress page of the website.
A General Presentation of the 2024 Ordinary Congress video was shared with Member Federations and online Member Federation consultation meetings were held in October to provide an opportunity for an exchange of information, comments and a Q&A session.
After the formal part of the Congress, the second part will give the opportunity to Member Federations to receive updates on some of World Rowing’s strategic projects and information items:
- Strategic Events and Calendar Review
- Indoor Rowing
- Continental Confederation project
- WR/WWF Healthy Waters Alliance
- ASOIF Governance review
