Lake Bled has been closely linked to International Rowing for decades, having hosted major championship events including the World Rowing Championships in 1966, 1979, 1989 and 2011, the European Rowing Championships in 1956 and 2023, and World Rowing Cups in 2010 and 2015. It also welcomed a record number of competitors at the 2017 World Rowing Masters Regatta and continues to host international events such as Euro Masters Regattas, supporting the ongoing development of rowing infrastructure at the venue.
Racing at the 2026 World Rowing Masters Regatta will take place on an eight-lane course, with the daily programme limited to daylight hours, from sunrise to sunset. The programme will include mixed events on Sunday, 13 September, with the entry deadline for mixed events set for 11 September.
For many athletes, the World Rowing Masters Regatta is shaped as much by long-established routine as by competition itself. Years of early-morning training sessions and preparation allow Masters rowers to continue competing while balancing professional and personal commitments. Rowing remains a sport that demands endurance and strength in equal measure, while also maintaining a close connection to the natural environment in which training and racing take place.
The regatta brings these individual experiences together in a single international event, where athletes compete not only as individuals, but as members of clubs.
Club Trophy
Club participation is a central element of the World Rowing Masters Regatta, with three Club Trophies awarded at each edition of the event: Men’s events, Women’s events, and Overall, recognising the most successful clubs based on a points system.
The Overall Club Trophy encourages balanced participation across men’s and women’s events. Club Trophies are awarded based on the performances of club crews only, with composite crews remaining eligible for event medals but not for Club Trophy points.
