The entries are in for rowing’s most important event of the year, the 2022 World Rowing Championships to be hosted in Racice, Czech Republic. World Rowing announces that over 900 athletes from 65 nations will be competing. This includes the biggest number of para-rowers ever at a World Rowing Championships.

The regatta will take place in Racice’s Labe Arena from 18 to 25 September 2022 with rowers vying for the coveted title of World Champion in 14 Olympic, six international and nine para-rowing boat classes.

Of the Olympic boat classes the men’s single sculls stands out with entries from 40 nations. This includes the reigning Olympic, World and European Champions in what will likely be an absolute showdown. Stefanos Ntouskos, Oliver Zeidler, Melvin Twellaar, Kjetil Borch but also Ben Davison, Graeme Thomas, Mindaugas Griskonis and Kristian Vasilev, these Championships will see the culmination of a tumultuous season in the men’s single sculls.

The women’s single sculls is well represented with 25 nations entered. The home crowd will be cheering for Lenka Antosova, who will be up against reigning Olympic Champion, New Zealand’s Emma Twigg. Also entered are World Cup medallists Tara Rigney of Australia and Jeannine Gmelin of Switzerland, as well as young phenomenon Karolien Florijn of the Netherlands, who has yet to lose a race this year, and looks to be untouchable.

The men’s double sculls has 25 nations taking part, and all eyes will be on Martin and Valent Sinkovic of Croatia. Since their return in the double sculls, they are unbeaten and are looking to add another World Championship title to their collection. They will face for the first time this season the Olympic Champions from France, Matthieu Androdias and Hugo Boucheron, for what will surely be an epic duel.

The lightweight women’s double sculls will be highly contested. Great Britain’s Imogen Grant and Emily Craig, fresh off their European Championship title, may be the favourites, as racing will be very close with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold and silver medallists, Valentina Rodini and Federica Cesarini of Italy and Claire Bove and Laura Tarantola of France. Not to be discounted will be Ireland, Switzerland, China, Canada and New Zealand.

The PR1 men’s single sculls sees 17 nations taking part. New European Champion, Giacomo Perini of Italy, will face all six of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games’ finalists, including reigning Paralympic Champion Roman Polianskyi of Ukraine. The PR3 Mixed Double Sculls, now added to the Paris 2024 Paralympic programme, will have nine entries and will be very interesting to watch.

Of the countries entered, the United States is sending the biggest team with entries in 25 of the 29 boat classes. Next is Italy with 23 boats entered. There is a wide representation across the world with entries from countries such as Sri Lanka, Iran, Nigeria, Iraq, Ivory Coast and Uruguay.
