Adopt a Beach – Marine litter & monitoring programme to tackling plastic pollution

The “Adopt a Beach” campaign by WWF is a citizen science initiative aimed at combating plastic pollution along the Mediterranean coastline. Launched in 2021 by WWF Greece, the programme has since expanded to include WWF Tunisia and WWF Türkiye, forming the “Adopt a Beach MED” network.

Türkiye – As part of the World Rowing – WWF Healthy Waters Alliance, and in partnership with the EU BlueMissionMed Project and DEKAFOK, rowing clubs from Türkiye joined WWF Türkiye’s “Adopt a Beach” initiative. Volunteers took action on Kleopatra Beach in Manavgat, cleaning and monitoring plastic pollution along the coastline.

Italy – The Italian Rowing Federation (FIC) collaborates with WWF Italy to include the rowing community in protecting and restoring Italian beaches.

  • The Adopt a Beach programme will enable Italian rowing clubs to involve their volunteers, coaches, and rowers in actively maintaining local beaches, safeguarding both our planet and the places where we row.
